We finally had a good weather weekend for the ski trip. It was so warm that people were skiing in tank tops and shorts. Alex did not really want to go, but by the end of the weekend, he didn’t want to leave. Christopher was excited about skiing the whole time. We did things a little differently this time. By the time we arrived at the ski area, full day ski school was full and we had to sign them up for a half-day in the afternoon. The morning was spent with them in group lessons. This was not a good idea for children. Wolfgang ended up working with them on refreshing their skills from last season. It was amazing to see how much and quickly they improved.
Riding up the magic carpet at the beginner slope:
The boys spent the second half of the day in ski school and started out on the other bunny slope. Wolfgang went up to ski the difficult slopes and I stayed on the beginner slope. It was pretty busy on Saturday. I had to wait in the lift lines for a while. I rode up the mountain with a lot of people from the Atlanta area. Once when standing in the lift lines, I heard someone comment that the kids getting on to the chair lifts were cute. I looked over and saw the children’s back and thought they were cute and realized that they were the boys! Their instructor had taught them to get on the lift, lowered the bar and sent them up the mountain by themselves. The instructor got on to the next chair with two other students. They boys rode up the mountain with each other without an adult and did well. Whew. I was a little worried that they would fall off. They had enough time to ski down the mountain twice.
The next morning we went back for another half day. The boys warmed up on the bunny slope and headed up the mountain again with their instructor. By the end of the morning, their instructor thought they were ready for the second level (blue slopes).
Getting instructions the second day for the ski lift
Getting ready to go up the slope with an instructor from another group:
If there were extra instructors around, the boys didn’t have to ride up by themselves, but if they had to go up alone, they were ok with that. It’s amazing how brave they are.
