Did you know that it only takes 2″ of snow to shut down the Atlanta Metro? The snow started falling around noon and continued into the evening. Businesses released their employees, parents left to pickup children from schools and day cares, children were on buses, and all around the same time as the interstate and back roads started to ice. That was a bad, bad combination. What ended up happening looked like scenes from an end of days or zombie apocalypse movie. There were huge traffic jams, cars ran out of gas, streets were impassable, and vehicles were abandoned on the roads and interstate. Some children were stuck on buses until midnight, while other children had to spend the night at schools. Home depot, and other businesses opened their doors to take in stranded commuters. People had to walk miles home in the snow with small children. Others were fortunate enough to crash at a friend’s house, and amazingly a lot of people took in strangers who were stranded into their homes for the night. Some people decided to just stay at work. The ones who did make it home took hours (8+) to arrive.
Luckily, Wolfgang got out at 2:30pm and arrived safely home at 5:10pm. The streets around where we lived were passable and not congested and I was able to pick up the boys without any problems. We’ve been at home having snow day fun.
